A Life in Hacking
Gerald “Tripp” Roybal III / cicada — an autobiographical account, with room for the people, work, and questions along the way.
I’m Gerald “Tripp” Roybal III, also known as cicada. This site is where I’m putting together the longer account of my life in hacking.
I want room here for a whole life: how ideas developed, what I tried, who I worked with, and what changed along the way. The history needs more context than a list of job titles or organizations can give it.
The detailed chapters are still being assembled. As they are added, personal recollections and supporting records will be identified separately. An approximate date will stay approximate; an unresolved question will stay visible.
The timeline connects events to longer accounts. Field Notes is the blog, for current thoughts and one-off writing. Sources and Archives holds the records behind published claims, with their provenance and limits.
